What is X:site?

What are X:site events?

X:site events are lively, energetic and of course, very X-citing children's events for anyone aged 7-11 (school year 3-6). The events are every 2 months on a Saturday evening and run for 2 hours (but be sure to come a bit earlier to register! We suggest arriving between 5:30-5:50pm). Children who come to these events may have some link to church through Sunday schools, school clubs, mid-week clubs - or may have no church background at all. X:site events are open to EVERYONE! We encourage those who do have some link with church to invite their friends!

How was X:site born?

It was Scripture Union who had the vision for X:site and passed this on to a group of Christians in Leeds. From there, X:site was born and X:site events are now running in at least 9 places across the country with more beginning very soon!

Scripture Union is a missionary movement working in over 130 countries to make Jesus known and to help people to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer. In this country, Scripture Union is involved in residential holidays, resourcing and supporting churches, summer mission events and Christian schools ministry.

What does an X:site event look like?

X:site events across the year will include a live band, silly games, small-group activities, bible stories, creative prayer, crafts, drama and much more! All children will have the chance to learn about Jesus in a relevant and enjoyable way, having fun and making LOTS of new friends! Children will be given nut-free snacks and drinks during the events - there is room on the child registration form to let us know if your child is allergic to anything and we will endeavour to make alternative provisions for them if necessary.

X:site events also make particular provision for children with special needs. A number of our team members have experience of working with children with special needs and learning difficulties and are on-hand to make sure that ALL children have a really great time. We want everyone to feel included!

Who runs X:site events in South Wiltshire?

X:site South Wiltshire was set-up by The Bridge Project who work in lots of local schools, meeting hundreds of young people every day (see 'What is The Bridge Project?' page for more information) with lots of help from churches all across South Wiltshire. On our X:site team we have a huge range of people with different jobs and backgrounds including; a Solicitor, a Music Teacher, a Church Children's Worker, a Radiographer, a Doctor of Health Psychology and many more! We also have a great junior team who are under 18 years old and help out with many aspects of the events. If you would like to be involved in X:site, please see our 'How To Get Involved' page.

What is the vision for X:site South Wiltshire?

The X:site vision for events is to:

  • See children developing a real and lasting relationship with Jesus.
  • Teach the Bible faithfully in a way that is relevant and exciting
  • Challenge children to live out their faith
  • Enable children to see themselves as members of the Christian community in South Wiltshire
  • Envision, equip and encourage childrens' ministry leaders throughout South Wiltshire

This vision was decided by Scripture Union and has been adopted by all X:site event teams across the country.

For South Wiltshire, however, we have added some of our own aims. Our extended vision is to:

  • Reach children that are already in some contact with The Bridge Project - providing another opportunity to reach young people with Jesus' love and helping to MAINTAIN an understanding of God and a relationship with their Heavenly father.
  • Reach children who have no church background, to show them the love of God and to give them an opportunity to learn about Jesus in a new and exciting way.
  • Teach children the importance of worship and how exciting it is to praise God.
  • Unite churches across South Wiltshire for the sake of seeing young people come to know the Word of God and salvation through Jesus Christ.

The vision for X:site events is based on the Scripture Union Mission Statement. Please follow the link below for more information.
